A 19th century, French, Louis XVI style chimney piece of Statuary marble of the finest quality and crisply carved to enhance and offset the gilt bronze mounts. The rectangular moulded shelf above the frieze which is decorated and centred with a finely cast and modelled Bacchanalian mask, her hair entwined with grapes and flanked by scrolls of foliage and flower heads enclosed by a continuous band of running pearl. The opening soffit and in-grounds enriched with a band of egg and dart. The jambs headed with shaped, fluted, corbels are inlaid with bronze mounts, above the blockings are inset with bronze matching the frieze. The side panelled and the whole raised on plinth blocks.
