Interior design at JL Atelier is a deeply personal practice. We do not apply a signature look or a predetermined aesthetic to every project. We listen, we observe, and we design from the inside out — starting with the people and the space, and building upwards from there.
Our design process is thorough and unhurried. We believe that the quality of thinking at the outset determines the quality of the outcome, and we invest considerable time in the early stages of each project to ensure that every decision that follows is well-founded and considered.
Residential Design
The home is the most personal of all design briefs. It must accommodate the full complexity of daily life while also expressing something true about the people who live within it. Our residential projects range from whole-home transformations to single rooms requiring particular attention, and we bring the same level of commitment to each.
We work closely with our clients throughout, translating their brief into a spatial and material language that feels genuinely theirs. The result is never a showroom — it is a home that has been thoughtfully arranged, carefully specified, and crafted to endure.
Commercial & Hospitality
Commercial spaces carry their own particular demands — they must perform, endure, and communicate at the same time. Our commercial and hospitality interiors are designed to do all three. Whether the brief is a boutique hotel, a private members environment, a restaurant or a professional workspace, we approach each project with the same depth of thinking that we bring to a private home.
We understand that commercial design is ultimately a form of communication — that the interior expresses something about the organisation or brand that occupies it. Our work in this area is always grounded in a clear understanding of that identity, and in the practical realities of the brief.
The Design Process
Discovery & Brief — We begin every project with an in-depth conversation about your space, your life and your expectations. This stage shapes the entire process that follows.
Concept Development — We develop a spatial and material concept that responds directly to the brief. This is presented through drawings, mood references and material samples for your review and approval.
Design Development — Once the concept is approved, we develop it in full detail: technical drawings, furniture specifications, material schedules and finish selections.
Procurement & Production — We manage the sourcing and commissioning of all elements, including bespoke furniture, joinery and specified products.
Installation & Completion — We oversee and coordinate the installation of all elements, ensuring that the completed space matches the design intent in every detail.
