Antique Chimneypieces

18th Century

G007

An important C18th English chimneypiece in statuary and Sicilian marbles. The fireplace has a Sicilian breakfront corniced mantelshelf, above a carved statuary frieze with a central female mask flanked by ribbon tied swags of Oak leaves. The jambs are headed by statuary corbels hung with drapery. The frieze to the chimneypiece is identical to that seen in a chimneypiece from Oakley Hall featured in Rothery’s authoritative work “English Chimneypieces” published in 1927.
